Yes, it’s $35 a month to help provide life-changing benefits for needy kids. You can sponsor for as long as you want or choose to get involved in other ways. You may donate as a one time donation too.  Your donations to our projects like building feeding centers, and shelters are based on how much you want to give. Tigray Child Fund will build feeding centers, and shelters for those who desperately need them.  Your financial support will mostly be spent on the child’s health, education, and emotional needs.

Co-founders Sephora and Holly Haileselassie started the organization. They saw the horrors of the Tigray children and learned more about the children’s situation, especially from their parents who immigrated from the Tigray region. Sephora and Holly saw the anger, sadness, and frustrations from their parents’ faces. They saw children who lost limbs and were killed mercilessly due to the war that started in November 2020. So, they decided to do something about it, and Tigray Child Fund (TCF) was born.

To help improve the lives of needy Tigray children. And we believe the best way to do it is through direct sponsorship, and through building children centers where they will be able to be fed, spend the night, and taken care of both spiritually and mentally. Most kids born into poverty have very little control over their lives and futures, so we’re working to change that. We believe we can make a difference in Tigray and solve children’s issues. Our final goal is every child is empowered to be able to attend school, stay healthy, educated, and be able to lead a successful life.

No, our supporters, volunteers, staff, children and their families span all beliefs and backgrounds. And we all share the same goal: ending Tigray childrens’ sufferings.

We are five people: Two co-founders, and three board members who live and work in San Francisco, CA. We also have ten volunteers (and counting) in Tigray who help register children in need, and help organize building feeding centers and shelters.   We are a new organization just starting out. We will for sure increase the number of volunteers in Tigray and members here in the USA.

We take a lot of security steps to ensure your donations are safe and spent wisely. For starters, your donation is directly deposited  into the bank, which means the donations are handled in a secure and professional way from the moment they are received. We will also have independent CPA firms audit us every year. Plus, we do our own internal agency audits annually. In general, 90% of your donations are spent directly to program support. To top it off, you can also read our annual report on our website.

Our local volunteers in Tigray determine which child needs the most help. After meeting the child, the volunteer looks at aspects such as a family’s source of income if the child has family, how reliable it is, the number of family members living in the home, the number of beds, the amount and types of possessions, and more.

You can write and send photos anytime via email. We can’t overstate how much your child would love to hear from you. Your emails provide hope and encouragement for your child to do well in school. We may also arrange for you to give them a call if you speak the local Tigrigna language. Just contact us and we will arrange.
